Building Identity. Architecture and Collective Identities in Medieval and Modern Europe (11th-18th centuries)

The purpose of this symposium is to examine the construction and development of collective identities in European architecture between the 11th and 18th centuries. To encompass a wide range of groups, all architectural forms can be studied on every mediaAlthough social groups were formed around common traits as early as the Middle Ages, this question remains unexplored in the history of architecture from this period up to the French Revolution.

This symposiem will explore three specific themes: visual and spatial semiotics, the use of materials, techniques and expertise, and the individuals around the creation.
